2023 Christmas Function
Marong Hotel 2nd December
Marong Hotel 2nd December
Well, there ya go. Another year has flown by (yes, they're getting faster) and another Custom Addictions Christmas Function has been held without anyone being hurt or arrested. If you were, let me know...
From 3pm Saturday arvo through to late we took over the outdoor entertaining area of the Marong Family Hotel, with finger food and drinks from the moment you walked in. And who doesn't like a free alcohol or two, or many. Or soft drink. Or water. You could have it all. And some obviously did.
The usual suspects were there in attendance - and also some "unusual" one's too. Or maybe they were the usual ones that had consumed a few more drinks than they would usually drink. Admittedly, some of the guys had a pretty good excuse as they'd been at the pub since lunchtime - Hi Andy, Hi Steve, Hi Hoota - and I reckon there were more, but those three stood out as the loudest one's having the most fun. Today was Andy's birthday - happy birthday mate - so their afternoon had started early. And speaking of Andy, I wonder if he knew several of his young female "friends" were going to turn up on a pub crawl, which resulted in him spending quite a lot of valuable drinking time talking. Just in case you've forgotten mate, there are a couple photos below to remind you. Who remembers the multiple trays of shots of all sorts of random liqueurs that were coming out from the bar? It started at 6 shots per tray, but Brendan took it a little too far with trays of 20 shots.... It was a really good night.
Thanks to all the members and families that came, we really hope you enjoyed yourselves. And Club members that had other things on, there's no-one else to blame other than yourself - that's really poor planning. And those members that couldn't be bothered making the effort? Excellent! We had to spend someone's memberships to finance the rather large drinks bill at the end of the night! And some of us were still there through to the end to enjoy. We know who the stayer's are. They're the one's that had the bar buy a final round of Jim Beam Black cans. And, to top it off, one of the bar guys drove the boy's back into Bendigo. I'm sure it wasn't to make certain we left.
I heard a story a few days later from Deano - and it sounds believable, most of 'em do - that later on that evening - like 4 hours later, he found himself alone on foot in the housing commission area of Long Gully and not remembering which way he was going or exactly how he got there. Vague memories of Brett taking him to some dark bar - was it a nightclub? - but then finding himself walking aimlessly (falling over and bleeding) trying to find his way home. Unlike Deano to waste money catching a taxi, but there are some areas you don't want to be lost in at 3am. And he was craving KFC, so he was never gonna make it that far. He survived. He also mentioned he really didn't feel like having a beer on Sunday - but did anyway - because "that's just what I do".
And has anyone seen or heard from Brett?
Now that the important "main" Christmas function is over, we move on the the Real Christmas. However you enjoy it, enjoy it. Catch up with family, catch up with mates, do stuff you wouldn't normally do - eat too much and drink too much - (actually, probably shouldn't drink too much).
I know it's been a scarce year for Club Events, hopefully next year will be a new year and not like last year or the last several years.
Thanks Marong Family Hotel for putting up with us and thanks to our Prez Kim for arranging another successful Christmas function.
Hopefully we'll see you all next year on a Club Cruise somewhere!
