Club Cruise to Inglewood Alive Festival
4th November, 2018
4th November, 2018
That's the last Club run for the year. Done and dusted. With only the Christmas function to go, we'll soon be planning for 2019. It's been a great year and looking back at the places we've been, the adventures we've had in 2018 - can't wait to get back into it again.
Today's cruise to Inglewood has been done before, twice, but judging by the amount of members coming today it looks like it's gonna be worth it. I counted 30 cars on the road and then a couple of bikes rolled up just as we were pulling in to Inglewood. And once again fantastic to see a couple of learners getting some Club experience - Rob's daughter in the Subaru Wagon and Nathan in the Calais.
Just before leaving from the Clubhouse at 9.30 our route out of Bendigo was changed as we realised the way we'd planned was closed due to the Bendigo Bank Fun Run. Short memories - as the roads were closed last year on the same weekend for the same event and probably the year before as well. We cruised out through the 'burbs' and with only a short re-group just the other side of Marong before hitting the blacktop to Inglewood.
We thought we'd be parking in the main street this year as we had arrived an hour earlier than previous visits - but no - we were directed into a tight side street with limited chance of leaving early. One of the officials saying "thought you blokes were gonna be here early..."). Quite a lot of us just parked out in the back streets. The only vehicle injury I saw after the run up to Inglewood was Bernie's Torana haemorrhaging orange liquid onto the pavement from under the engine. He wasn't worried at all, and didn't even open the bonnet until we were ready to leave. He found his shiny new radiator cap was leaking rusty water.
I reckon there were fewer vehicles in the main street this year as the organisers seem to have concentrated more on having food stalls and large areas of tables and chairs filling all the places where cars previously would have been parked. And the other thing I noticed was the absence of "Big Mean Looking Bikies" that on previous years had been policing the entry/exit points. (Remember how impressed they were with Shane's departure last time? All smiles and cheers). But maybe the Council has taken over running the event now. There were still a lot of cool cars and bikes on display and plenty of Market type stalls to keep the families entertained. This event seems to get bigger each year, but I hope they concentrate on the vehicles and don't turn it into a market.
Some of the boys decided it was going to be way too hard to get a meal - or even a beer - in the Inglewood pub, so the really thirsty one's pulled up stumps early and headed for the Allies. And so that's how the afternoon went - plenty of beers and a fair share of bull. Not sure if it's true, but there was a rumour that around 5pm someone was heard saying "Geez, I don't see how we're all gonna fit into Wilma's Monaro....."
See you all at the Christmas Party on the 15th December.
