Club Cruise and Camping Weekend to Logan
25th March, 2017
For the Club members that took the opportunity to come to Logan, it was a good run. Slightly cool, a little cloudy but a nice day. It could have been just a quiet Club cruise though the countryside to the Logan Pub Car Show. And for some, it was. That would have been perfectly fine.
We left the Clubhouse at 10.30 - a bit late - but in no rush, and headed out north west on the Calder with the Prez in the lead. As we re-grouped in Marong, I learnt a valuable lesson. It's not wise to double park an 8 foot wide Plymouth in the 'through lane' of a truck stop, especially about 60 seconds before a 'B' double has intentions of barrelling in. Or maybe over. Kids, you'd better get back in the car NOW. We all left pretty quick, me with some clenched muscles in the lower regions. Always something to make you smile. Even Ross and Kaye were smiling in the TR3 as now the brakes were fixed from the previous run to Redesdale, and not locked on. Probably doubled the apparent horsepower of the TR3.
Logan is an old goldrush Pub sitting at the crossroads of the Wimmera Highway and Wedderburn road in the middle of vast wheat farming paddocks. There are no other bits of Logan, just a pub. Hoota and Steve had brought the bus and ute up earlier and had a prime spot for us to park. We set up our tents and swags while the members not staying relaxed and watched on. A BBQ lunch was cooked and we viewed a variety of customs, classics and bikes pull off the main highway and park by the Pub.
As the afternoon rolled by, the guys not staying packed up their eskies and chairs and hit the road back to Bendigo, well before the kangaroos and wombats decided to take their nightly stroll across the road - invariably just in front of you. And so, for those that left Logan before dark and traveled home, you had a good day.
But for the members who stayed the night - and the night was just beginning - it was going to be long and something you can't repeat. Some other guys in another camp were heard saying just as they were going to bed - "I reckon those guys over there (us) are planning on staying up all night". We'll only ever do this the first time once. And now it's done. You either had to be there, or you'll have to try to coax the details from someone that was there. You know how stories get considerably more full of bullshit as they get re-told over and over? Well, the stories that you hear from this weekend are going to be watered down versions of what actually happened. Some parts will never be discussed. And so ended a great weekend, lookin' forward to doing this annual event next year for the second time.
And some bad news - Hoota tells me The Bus had a heart attack on the way home. She didn't make it. RIP little engine. She is now on the waiting list for a big block.
Thanks to the Events Guys for the venue, the Clubhouse Committee for the food, shelter and amenities, and thanks to the Main Committee for the endless 'all day and all night' refreshments.

"What happens in Logan - stays in Logan".
We'll only do this the first time once.
We'll see you on a cruise somewhere!
