Club Run to Lake Eppalock.
16th August, 2015.
16th August, 2015.
The Farmers Arms Hotel in Junortoun was the starting point for this middle of winter run out to Lake Eppalock. Once again it was great to see the usual regulars, but also this time at least a dozen rarely seen members and their vehicles as well. Like the run to Elphinstone a couple of months ago, these short afternoon runs are proving to be very popular with families. Even teenagers are coming along with their parents!
After a bite to eat at the Farmers Arms, we hit the road out through Axedale, to Knowsley, then to the spillway of Lake Eppalock. At least most of us went that way. About 10 others thought we'd all turned off at Axedale and headed to the Kiosk area of Eppalock. We really need to work on planning of our routes a little better or at least letting everyone know the exact route. Although there was a reason some guys were lagging back a bit - Brad's Chevy Biscayne lost its bonnet just after leaving the Farmers Arms. Really annoying for Brad and a bit of damage as well. At least the bonnet got a free ride out to Eppalock and back home in the back of Hoota's ute......
A phone call to the guys that went the wrong way soon had us all meeting up at the carpark overlooking the spillway. An hour later we were all back on the road (after jump starting Bobs HQ GTS coupe - don't you just love classic old cars?) and cruising back to the One Tree Hill Hotel in town. Some laid back time to de-brief and discuss the next cruise.

On a more serious note - Kim had planned previously that we would do a "Poker Run" today to help raise money which would be donated to Daryl Floyd. Daryl is a central Victorian man whose 12 year old brother, Terry, went missing near Avoca in June 1975 an has never been seen again. Through anecdotal evidence, co-incidences and gut feelings, Daryl believes he knows what happened to his older brother on that fateful day and has been through hell as he attempts to excavate an old mineshaft in the forest near where Terry was last seen. An expensive and very time consuming process. We wish Daryl, his family and friends good luck and hope that a little extra cash will help in their endeavours for justice for Terry.
Well done Kim - what a wonderful idea and a great effort in raising quite a lot of money in one afternoon for a very worthy cause.
