Custom Addictions Classic car Show
Ravenswood Homestead, 20th May 2017
Ravenswood Homestead, 20th May 2017
From those initial conversations where we tossed around the idea that Custom Addictions would stage a car show fundraiser for the Cumming family, we knew it was going to be a wild ride with some extremely tight time-frames. A meeting was held and a date picked. In six weeks time. That shouldn’t be too difficult - surely. How hard could it be? All we needed was a suitable vacant venue at a suitable price. What we initially thought was going to be the hardest part turned out to be relatively easy as our Prez took a drive down to Ravenswood Homestead and had a chat with the owner. Turns out Corey had been thinking about the idea of holding an event just like this. Tick the first problem off our list.
The other issues – like sponsors, advertising, radio interviews, food and coffee vans, entertainment, pricing, tables, chairs, first aid, trophies, generator, toilets, bins and a myriad of other little difficulties kept us up late at night.
But as the weeks went by, the items on our list disappeared and eventually, on the night before, the final set up was completed. Thanks to the guys that took Friday off work to be at Ravenswood where they finished what was widely thought to be almost un-achievable. And of course then there was the weather. As the date had drawn nearer, it was obvious from the Bureau that the whole east coast side of Australia was going to be un-seasonally wet over that weekend.
The Saturday morning of the show dawned foggy and predictably saturated from the rain the day before but luckily the forecast was to fine up later in the afternoon. Thanks to the 20 members that arrived at 8.30am to help, very much appreciated. And, as the cars and bikes rolled in, the sun broke through the clouds and everything was good.
Ravenswood Homestead was packed with cars – around 200 – and packed with families. Sitting around in the sunshine, drinking coffee and hot chocolate, eating donuts - or a sausage or a taco or pizza. Kids playing on the grassed dam bank – other kids smoking rabbits out of burrows (not Custom addictions kids….). Everyone catching up with mates and checking out the cars and bikes. What a great day. As the afternoon drew to a close, and we stood around the fire, we not only breathed a sigh of relief that it had gone off without a single problem, we were just so proud of our Club and what we had just proved we could do.

If - like most of us - you missed the interview our Prez did on Castlemaine's Main FM radio promoting our Car Show at Ravenswood Homestead, you can listen to the recording here.
Our very best wishes go to Tahnee, Aaron, their family and friends during this extremely tough time.
Our thoughts are with you.
A special thank you to Haylee Kennedy for her input and support in the organisation of this event.
Thanks to our sponsors for the magnificent trophies, generous donations from the stall holders and food vans.
And a huge thank you to Corey and Grace of Ravenswood Homestead for allowing us access to the historic grounds of your mansion. Without that lovely venue, the event would not have been the success that it was.
Most of all, our gratitude to everyone who came along to support our first ever “Custom Addictions Classic Car Show”.
Checkout the photo’s below – we’ll be back again next year - lookin’ for 500 cars….
